NJ athlete returns from Paralympics in London to find her home burglarized
TOMS RIVER, N.J. – Police are trying to find the person who burglarized a New Jersey woman’s home while she was in London competing in the Paralympics.
The suspect stole cash and jewelry from Cheryl Leitner’s Toms River home. Also missing were things the three-time track and field competitor earned at the Paralympic Games in Beijing and Sydney, Australia.
The 29-year-old quadriplegic wouldn’t specify what the objects are because the investigation is ongoing. However, Leitner tells the Asbury Park Press (http://on.app.com/PlmwMl ) they are things she could pass on when she has children so they could be proud of her.
Leitner’s family left for London on Aug. 27 and her mother returned on Sunday to find the home ransacked.
