Events prove Christmas is in the air

VERNON – The theme this weekend? Christmas. From holiday concerts, to light-up festivals, to festive flicks at the movie theatre, Christmas spirit is in the air. Bundle up as  Environment Canada is calling for highs in the minuses—that’s right, the highs this weekend are pegged at -12 and -13 C. There’s a chance of snow on Saturday.

Check out the Shoparama Holiday Gift Sale Saturday at the Schubert Centre where a merry mix of artisans, entrepreneurs and home-based businesses will be toting their wares.

Head up to Silver Star for their annual Christmas light-up, featuring sleigh rides, caroling, and no shortage of hot chocolate. Make it a special night by embarking on the “Trail of Lights” snowshoe tour.

Hungry for Christmas shopping? Visit Trinity United Church on Saturday for their Cookie Extravaganza. A great opportunity to pick up baking for the holiday season. Doors open at 9:40 a.m.

Want something a little different this year? Try the Alternative Gift Fair, featuring holiday gifts with a twist. Buy your loved one a gift that will warm their heart and the hearts of others by donating to a charity in their name. Local and international charities on hand at the gift fair, Saturday at the Arbour on 43rd Avenue from 10a.m. to 4 p.m.

Galaxy Cinemas is launching its family Christmas movie series, showing holiday favourites at a bargain of $2.50. Check out their website for showtimes. Holiday films are set for Dec. 7, 14, 21. 

The Vernon Rotary Carol Festival is set for Saturday and Sunday at the Vernon and District Performing Arts Centre. A Christmas tradition since 1952, the annual event features over 20 musical groups. By donation.
