B.C. woman shares ‘beautiful, scary moment’ of a bear encounter
COQUITLAM – Maria Scuor started walking the Coquitlam Crunch trail when she heard rustling about five feet to her left.
"The bear was eating berries," she wrote in a Facebook post made after her picture was plucked from the internet and went viral.
"He stood on his hind legs and looked at me then slowly went back down. That’s when I took the picture of him in the bush. I walked backwards watching him and told everyone there was a bear. We watched him come out of the bush and stop to look at us. He slowly started up the Crunch."
She yelled to the people in front ”bear behind you” but they all had headsets on and didn’t hear them.
"Luckily to the right of him there was an opening and he took it," she wrote. "This was a beautiful scary moment (showing) nature and humans can coexist if we respect each other."
The bear was not bothering humans, was in its own territory and it went on its way.
