Vancouver man practised illegal dentistry out of basement: dental college

VANCOUVER – B.C.’s regulatory body for dentists is taking action against a man it claims was practising illegal dentistry in the basement of a Vancouver house.

The College of Dental Surgeons of B.C. says an investigation involving surveillance led it to conclude Chao Ming Guan was performing dentistry out of his home, despite never being registered as a dentist in the province.

The college says during a police-involved search in June, extensive dental equipment and handwritten notes referring to dental work were seized.

It also says the man’s office didn’t meet infection prevention and control standards.

An injunction has been issued that stops Guan from practising dentistry and using any name or title that implies that he is registered or associated with the dental college.

The college is urging anyone who may have been treated by the man to consult with a physician and visit a legal dentist to review the work done and the materials used.
