Three charged in surprise search and seize

VERNON – RCMP raided a drug house Thursday after receiving tips from the public about suspicious activity there.

Vernon’s Targeted Policing unit conducted an investigation into the 35th Street residence after residents and business owners in the area grew concerned over the high volume of traffic coming in and out of the area.

On Thursday, officers obtained a search warrant for the home and were met by numerous people inside. A 31-year-old Vernon man living there was arrested on a trafficking warrant stemming from an undercover operation back in September. He will also be facing new charges of possession of cocaine and methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a prohibited weapon and possession of a weapon contrary to a court ordered prohibition. He has been held for court.

A second man, 29, who also lived there, returned to the house and earned himself an arrest.  He is expected to face charges of possession of stolen property that was recovered in the residence. He was released on a promise to appear in court.

A third man, 28, who was found in possession of a prohibited weapon, was arrested and released for violating court orders.

A seventeen-year-old woman was taken from the residence and turned over to her parents.

Several other people at the house were released without any charges. Trafficking paraphernalia and around $1000 cash were also seized by police.

The RCMP is continuing to investigate this file and further charges are possible.
