Calgary Stampeders offensive co-ordinator Dave Dickenson says he’s staying put

VANCOUVER – Dave Dickenson says he will still be a member of the Calgary Stampeders next season.

The club’s offensive co-ordinator fielded questions at a media availability on Thursday about the B.C. Lions’ vacant head coaching position, but insisted he will be with the Stampeders in 2015.

“I’m going to be back in Calgary next year,” said Dickenson, who is also the club’s assistant head coach. “That’s my answer to that question. It’s going to be the same answer tomorrow, the same answer next week.”

The Stampeders meet the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in Sunday’s Grey Cup. With the game in Vancouver, there have been rumbling the Lions might be interested in bringing back their former quarterback to lead the team after Mike Benevides was axed last week.

But Dickenson squashed that talk on Thursday.

It’s thought the 41-year-old is in line to succeed Stampeders head coach and general manager John Hufnagel on the Calgary sidelines.

The 63-year-old Hufnagel seemed to suggest on Wednesday that there’s an agreement in place for Dickenson to eventually take over.

“I think last year, when Dave signed a long-term contract with the Calgary Stampeders, it was pretty self-explanatory,” said Hufnagel.
