Convenience store fined after confrontation with Worksafe B.C. officer

PENTICTON – A Penticton convenience store owner has been levied a $5,000 fine against his firm after a visit by a Worksafe B.C. inspector turned nasty.

A Worksafe officer visited the 24 Main convenience store at 702 Main Street in Penticton as a follow up to a previous inspection when the store representative became verbally abusive and threatening.

The officer was unable to complete the inspection and Worksafe B.C. recently imposed the fine "for hindering, obstructing or interfering with an officer in the performance of functions and duties under the Workers Compensation Act,” according to a posting on the Worksafe B.C. search for penalties website.

Worksafe B.C. says the firm, known as Imraj Holding Enterprises Ltd., also failed to comply with an order to attend a meeting to answer questions related to the incident.
