Two crashes in one day near Salmon Arm
KAMLOOPS – Salmon Arm RCMP were busy yesterday with two crashes in the area.
The first crash of the day happened around 2:30 p.m. on the Trans Canada Highway. According to witnesses, a westbound silver SUV crossed the painted meridian, crashing headfirst with an eastbound van holding two adults and two children. The driver of the SUV was alone and it is suspected that alcohol was a factor in the crash.
The five people involved were all brought to the hospital and treated. No injuries were life-threatening, and the two children in the van were treated for minor injuries.
Later that day at around 6 p.m., a driver who was travelling south on Balmoral Road misjudged traffic and attempted to turn left into the east lane of the Trans Canada Highway. A vehicle in the westbound curb lane struck the car. One person involved was airlifted to the hospital and another person involved was trapped in their vehicle until the Shuswap Highway Rescue Team freed them.
All people involved are expected to recover from the collision.
The driver who misjudged the turn was served a violation ticket under the motor vehicle act for failing to yield after a stop.
