Another snowmobiler rescued from Hunter’s Range

ENDERBY – High-tech gadgets meant an injured man got a speedy rescue from a remote snowmobiling area in Enderby.

Vernon search and rescue manager Leigh Pearson says a man sustained a back injury while snowmobiling in the Hunter’s Range area with five other companions. Luckily, the group had safety in mind when they embarked earlier in the day. They had a satellite phone and emergency beacon.

“You push a button and it (beacon) sends an emergency signal with the latitude and longitude to a dispatch centre… then to the nearest police detachment which in this case was Sicamous,” Pearson says.

A B.C. Air Ambulance was able to lift the man to safety and Vernon search and rescue teams were called off. Pearson says his injury could be quite serious, so it’s a good thing he’s getting quick treatment.

Hunter’s Range was the location of another recent incident involving a woman who got separated from her group and was lost for four hours before search and rescue found her.
