National Film Board of Canada gets Claude Joli-Coeur as new chair

GATINEAU, Qc – Claude Joli-Coeur is the new government film commissioner and chair of the National Film Board of Canada.

The appointment by Heritage Minister Shelly Glover, announced Tuesday, is effective Nov. 27 for a term of five years.

Joli-Coeur has been interim commissioner and chair of the NFB since Jan. 1, when Tom Perlmutter stepped down to devote himself to writing books on issues affecting the arts and public cultural organizations.

Joli-Coeur has held several positions at the NFB since joining in October 2003, including assistant commissioner.

He specializes in entertainment law and international co-production.

“It is a great asset to have a person of Mr. Joli-Coeur’s calibre leading this organization,” Glover said in a statement. “With his expertise, proven leadership and numerous contributions during his last 11 years at the National Film Board, he will continue to be highly valuable to the organization.”
