
Drunken teenager arrested after late-night fight in Vernon
VERNON – A 18-year-old Edmonton man was arrested for being drunk in public following a late-night brawl in downtown Vernon.
According to a Vernon North Okanagan RCMP media release two men were reported fighting at the Fruit Union Plaza just after midnight Aug. 20. When officers arrived in the 3100 block of 25 Avenue, the men involved fled into Polson Park.
"Our officers conducted foot patrols of the park and located a highly intoxicated man who matched the description given by the complainant," Vernon RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Tania Finn said in the release. "The second individual could not be located."
The 18-year-old from Edmonton was arrested for being intoxicated in a public place as he was unable to care for himself. Paramedics were called to the scene and it was determined the 18-year-old should be held by police until he was sober.
He was fined $115 for being intoxicated in a public place and $230 for possession of liquor by a minor.
