Rain falls for a second day on parched California

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – A second day of much-needed rain is falling across drought-stricken California.
The rain awakened signature waterfalls at Yosemite National Park, including the 2,425-foot Yosemite Falls that had dried to a trickle by mid-July.
At Yucaipa Ridge in the San Bernardino Mountains east of Los Angeles, 8.38 inches of rain fell by 4 a.m.
In San Francisco, a 10-foot-wide, 8-foot-long sinkhole opened up, but no injuries were reported.
Southern California coastal residents faced a thick tangle of trash that washed from city streets into storm drains and onto beaches.
Despite the storm’s scale, experts say it would take many more similar storms to pull the state out of a three-year drought.
The rain is expected to last through Thursday.
