MONACO, Monaco – The IOC has approved a more affordable bidding process, the creation of an Olympic television channel and a more flexible sports program that could lead to the inclusion of baseball and softball at the 2020 Tokyo Games.
The International Olympic Committee voted in favour of the new rules Monday on the opening day of a special two-day session to adopt President Thomas Bach’s 40-point “Olympic Agenda 2020” reform package, the biggest changes in the IOC in decades.
The IOC says the digital TV channel will promote Olympic sports and ideals in the years between the games. It will cost $600 million to operate over the first seven years.
