White House: Obama would sign $1.1 trillion spending bill despite reservations

WASHINGTON – The White House says President Barack Obama will sign a $1.1 trillion spending bill that has drawn widespread opposition from Democrats over its inclusion of banking and campaign money provisions they dislike.

White House spokesman Josh Earnest said that Obama also has reservations about aspects of the bill but wants to avoid economic headwinds that could be created if the spending bill fails.

Earnest said passage of the bill would “provide certainty to our economy.”

Democrats oppose provisions inserted into the 1,600 page bill that would roll back regulations on banks and would significantly increase political contributions limits for wealth party donors.

Earnest said the bill contains provisions that meet the president’s priorities and does not include language that would roll back his immigration actions or his health care law.
