TORONTO – Some of the most active companies traded Thursday on the Toronto Stock Exchange:

Toronto Stock Exchange (13,905.12, up 52.17 points):

Mawson West Ltd. (TSX:MWE). Miner. Up 2.5 cents, or 125 per cent, to 4.5 cents on 24.9 million shares.

B2Gold Corp. (TSX:BTO). Miner. Down two cents, or one per cent, to $1.99 on 6.9 million shares.

Penn West Petroleum Ltd. (TSX:PWT). Oil and gas. Down 14 cents, or 5.24 per cent, to $2.53 on 6.8 million shares.

Surge Energy Inc. (TSX:SGY). Oil and gas. Down one cent, or 0.29 per cent, to $3.47 on 5.9 million shares.

Suncor Energy Inc. (TSX:SU). Oil and gas. Up 15 cents, or 0.46 per cent, to $32.56 on 5.6 million shares.

Bombardier Inc. (TSX:BBD.B). Aerospace. UP 10 cents, or 2.53 per cent, to $4.06 on 5.5 million shares.

Companies reporting major news:

Cenovus Energy (TSX:CVE).Oil and gas. Down 30 cents, or 1.42 per cent, to $20.80 on 4.8 million shares. The company joined other energy companies that have been reacting to sharply lower oil prices by reducing capital spending. Cenovus announced Thursday a cut in 2015 capital spending to between $2.5 billion and $2.7 billion, down about 15 per cent from 2014 levels.
