Long Lake fire near Kamloops being held

KAMLOOPS – The wildfire that broke out four kilometres from Kamloops last night is now one hectare in size and being held, but could flare up again.

Kamloops Fire Rescue Platoon Capt. Will Harlock says personnel remained on site overnight and says one truck with two personnel will be back on site this morning, Aug. 29, to monitor the area and ensure the fire doesn’t grow.

“The temperature is supposed to go up to 33 degrees today and if there's any wind that thing could pick back up because it’s quite deep-seated,” Harlock says.

The fire was spotted last night.

No structures are threatened by the fire.

According to Kelsey Dunkley, a fire information officer with B.C. Wildfire Service, there is six B.C. Wildfire personnel on-site to assist Kamloops Fire Rescue.
