Kamloops fire crews knock down blaze caused by vehicle fire

KAMLOOPS – Kamloops firefighters were called to a report of a vehicle fire last night that spread to nearby trees, grass and sagebrush.

Capt. Wade Lindoff says the call came in at 8:25 p.m. yesterday, Aug. 29, about a car fire in the Rose Hill neighbourhood. Nearly 12 firefighters responded to knock down the fire and were there until just after 11 p.m.

The fire was measured at 15 metres by 25 metres, Lindoff says. 

"RCMP were on scene for traffic control and since then we have been back a couple of times," he says. "There is still the odd hot spot within the burnt areas so our crews have been monitoring it and they will go up again shortly just to put a little more water on a couple of the hot spots in the middle."

Lindoff says with the heat of the day its quite common for flames to flare up again.

"We will monitor it until its completely extinguished," he says. 

There is no word on what caused the vehicle fire.

"There was nobody around from what I understand. It was an abandoned vehicle fire," he says.
