Vernon man in custody after suspected stolen property seized
VERNON – Vernon RCMP are trying to reunite some stolen property with the original owners.
Front line officers were called to the 5200-block of 25 Avenue yesterday, Aug. 29, at about 6 a.m. for a report of a suspicious man who was in the possession of what appeared to be two high-end bicycles and an alleged weapon. Officers responded, seizing what they believed to be recent stolen property including two bicycles — one black and green "GIANT" mountain bike and one brown and white "TREK mountain bike — and two pellet rifles with camouflage stocks.
"It was the keen eye of the witness that followed their gut instinct and believed the property may have been stolen, thus contacting the police so our officers could attend to investigate," said Vernon RCMP media liaison Const. Kelly Brett. "Through investigation, officers located other alleged stolen property on the suspect that was previously reported to police, thus leading officers to believe the two bikes and two airsoft rifles are possible stolen property that has not yet been reported to police."
A 30-year-old Vernon man remains in police custody and is facing possible charges of possession of stolen property.
Anyone with any information about this property is asked to contact the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP at 250-545-7171 and ask to speak to Const. Cooke or remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or leave a tip online at www.nokscrimestoppers.com. You do not have to reveal your identity to Crime Stoppers. If you provide information that leads to an arrest, you could be eligible for a cash reward.
