Canadian women’s bobsled duo Upperton and Brown announce their retirement

CALGARY – Canadian women’s bobsledders Helen Upperton and Shelley-Ann Brown have decided to retire.

They teamed up to win a silver medal at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics.

Upperton, a 32-year-old from Calgary, started piloting in 2003 and became the first Canadian to win a women’s World Cup race in 2005-’06.

She teamed up with Brown, a 32-year-old Toronto native, for the Olympic season.

Upperton plans to host and co-produce an adventure reality television show that will begin airing next month.

Brown, who has a master’s degree in educational psychology, has enrolled in teachers college at the University of Toronto.
