CBC-TV to adapt Ian Hamilton’s Ava Lee crime thriller book series

TORONTO – CBC-TV plans to adapt Canadian author Ian Hamilton’s Ava Lee crime thriller series.

The female protagonist is a fearless Chinese-Canadian forensic accountant who lives in Toronto and is gay.

House of Anansi Press says Strada Films has struck a development deal with the CBC for a limited series based on the novels’ prequel, “The Dragon Head of Hong Kong.”

Halifax-born screenwriter Karen Walton, who penned the film “Ginger Snaps,” is creating the series.

Hamilton first introduced Ava Lee to readers in 2011 with the publication of “The Water Rat of Wanchai.”

The seventh novel in the series, “The King of Shanghai,” is due out Dec. 31 through Anansi imprint Spiderline.
