Kelowna man dead after cliff jump at Skaha Lake

SKAHA LAKE – An 18-year-old Kelowna man is dead after jumping off a cliff in a popular cliff-jumping area at the southeast end of Skaha Lake Friday, Aug. 30.

"The man jumped off a point approximately 110 feet from the lake surface and did not resurface," said Sgt. Janelle Shoihet with the BC RCMP.

Penticton RCMP officers, with support from Penticton and Okanagan Search and Rescue and the RCMP Air Service, searched the area Friday. The man was not located.

Shoihet said the RCMP Underwater Recovery Team located the man's body just after 7 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 31.

The BC Coroners Service is investigating the incident.

No further information is available. The Kelowna man will not be identified.
