KELOWNA – KFD fire crews responded to a report of visible flames coming from a home at 496 Eldorado Road shortly after 11 a.m. today
The residents of the house, a family of four, were not home when the fire broke out, however they returned just as fire crews arrived on scene.
Damage is confined to the carport and external wall of the house. The siding of the house next door was also destroyed as was a row of trees.
The cause of the quick-burning blaze has not yet been determined. however Platoon Capt. Laurie Serras says it was most likely the result of an electrical issue and notes that there were several power cables near the point of origin.
Marek Wilk lives next door and was one of the first to notice the fire and call 911.
"(The fire) started right under the car port," he says. "If I had a fire extinguisher I could probably have put it out, but I couldn't find it."
Although damage to Wilk's home is largely superficial, Capt. Serres says the home where the fire originated will be uninhabitable for at least several days.
No one was injured.
