Thousands experience long weekend power outages in Thompson-Okanagan

VERNON – An estimated 3,552 BC Hydro customers in the Thompson-Okanagan area experienced power outages over the long weekend.

According to BC Hydro, 38 incidents were reported from Saturday, Aug. 31 to Sunday, Sept. 2. The largest outage occurred when a bird came into contact with a powerline in the North Okanagan Saturday.

BC Hydro reports that power was out for 1,535 customers between 3:41 p.m. and 7:40 p.m. Aug. 31 in an area near Westside Road.

Other outages varied in size from less than five customers to more than 600. Various causes were reported.

As of Monday afternoon, no ongoing power outages within BC Hydro's coverage area are reported.
