Track record shows promise for new wildfire near Sicamous: BC Wildfire Service
SICAMOUS – A new wildfire sparked near Sicamous, but the BC Wildfire Service is confident in its performance this year.
Fire information officer Erika Berg confirmed the Kingfisher Creek fire at 0.7 hectares Monday, Sept. 2. The fire is located approximately 19 kilometres southeast of Sicamous in a wooded area and remains out of control.
“Eleven firefighters are on site as well as some heavy equipment,” Berg said. “Given the track record of the fires in that area recently, our firefighters have been fairly good at putting them out.”
There is currently no suspected cause for the Kingfisher Creek fire, which was discovered Sunday, Sept. 1.
According to Environment Canada, sun and warm weather remain in the forecast until Saturday, Sept. 7.
The Gallon Creek wildfire, which ignited in the bush east of Vernon Friday, has been doused, Berg said. The cause of that blaze remains under investigation.
