Vernon RCMP recover stolen bikes

VERNON – RCMP officers in Vernon recovered half-a-dozen stolen bikes over the long weekend.

According to a Vernon North Okanagan RCMP media release, four youth BMX bikes were stolen from a property in the 1600 block of 30 Avenue sometime overnight on Sept. 2.

Police conducted foot patrols in and around Vernon in areas known to house stolen property. Just a few hours after the bikes were reported stolen officers located the bikes.

"The relationships that our officers have within the community allowed them to gather enough intel for the quick recovery of the bikes and to get them back to their rightful owner before they were altered or modified," RCMP media relations officer Const. Kelly Brett said in the release. "The officers were happy to return the bikes to the youths just prior to the school year commencing."

Officers were also able to recover two additional mountain bikes that are now being returned to the rightful owners.

The investigation into the stolen bikes is still in its early stages and ongoing, RCMP said.
