NY police: Man climbs into tiger exhibit at Bronx Zoo, gets mauled, loses leg

NEW YORK, N.Y. – New York police say a man has climbed into an exhibit at the Bronx Zoo and has been mauled by a tiger and lost a leg.

New York Police Department spokesman Paul Browne says the 25-year-old man climbed over two fences to reach the enclosure. The attack occurred Friday at about 3 p.m. in a fenced enclosure at the zoo. Browne says the tiger attacked him before being pulled away by zoo personnel.

The man has been hospitalized in critical condition.

The zoo hasn’t responded to a request for information about what had happened.
