60 hurt, 11 arrested as fans riot when turned back from attending MTV show in Spain

MADRID – Officials say 60 people have been injured and 11 arrested when music fans rioted outside a Madrid theatre after it closed its doors to avoid exceeding its capacity limits.

City police said thousands of people had turned up at the venue in the hope of attending a free music event hosted by music television channel MTV on Friday night.

Police said that once the theatre was full, scuffles broke out in the street outside and people began throwing bottles. More officers were deployed, including some on horseback, after garbage containers in the neighbourhood were set alight.

An emergency service said that no one was badly injured.
