RV destroyed by fire in Lake Country
KELOWNA – A large fifth-wheel trailer was burned almost to the ground just after 9 p.m. last night, Sept. 4, in a trailer park off Pelmewash Parkway in Lake Country.
“There were flames reaching well over 150 feet high, in fairly close proximity to other trailers there so, when I got on the scene, all people in the vicinity were trying to spray that down,” Fire Chief Steve Windsor told iNFOnews.ca. “We got them to spray the roofs of all the other trailers before our fist truck arrived on the scene.”
The fifth wheel had a cedar deck and fence and a hot tub so it was a semi-permanent home, he said. The owners were in Calgary at the time.
With the cedar decking and the fibreglass construction of the RV, it burned very quickly.
Since there were homes above it, firefighters and neighbours were struggling up the steep hill behind. One neighbour slipped and cut himself and a firefighter slipped and sprained a thumb. Both were minor injuries and they were treated at the scene.
The fire is under investigation by the RCMP.
