Jake Gardiner scratched from Toronto’s lineup against Philadelphia
TORONTO – Maple Leafs defenceman Jake Gardiner is a healthy scratch tonight as Toronto plays host to the Philadelphia Flyers.
The move comes a day after head coach Randy Carlyle described the 24-year-old’s recent play as “very erratic”.
It’s the third time this season Gardiner has been left out of the lineup as he was a healthy scratch Oct. 12th and Oct. 14 in games against the New York Rangers and Colorado Avalanche.
In 30 games this season Gardiner has two goals and eight points to go along with a team-worst minus-11 rating.
Korbinian Holzer, who was a healthy scratch for Thursday’s 4-1 loss in Carolina, took Gardiner’s spot in the lineup and started the game alongside Morgan Rielly.
Gardiner signed a new five-year $20.25 million contract in July.
Toronto currently has seven healthy defencemen on the active roster.
