Threat against Kamloops high school not credible: RCMP

KAMLOOPS – A Kamloops high school student will not be facing any criminal charges after posting what appeared to be a threat against a school on Snapchat.

Yesterday, Sept. 10, police were notified of a student from Sa-Hali Secondary School who had made a threat against the school via social media, according to an RCMP media release. 

A female student was identified and officers made contact with her and her parents at her home.

"The student had not realized that what she thought was an innocent play on words could be deemed as an actual threat," Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says in a media release.

Police determined the post was not a credible threat.

“Every threat made on a school, no matter what media it comes through, is taken very seriously,” Shelkie says.

“It takes a tremendous amount of resources to react to these threats and to investigate the source of the threat. It is critically important for parents to stress to their children the consequences of making inappropriate comments regarding such matters in any and all school settings."
