Puerto Rico pop star Chayanne’s promoter detained with $50,000 in Guatemala

GUATEMALA CITY – Guatemalan authorities say they have detained a promoter for Puerto Rican pop star Chayanne as she was trying to leave the country with $50,000 in undeclared cash.

Several officials confirmed the early Thursday incident to The Associated Press, speaking on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to comment publicly.

Sandra Patricia Vega was in Guatemala to help concerts that also starred Marc Anthony and Marco Antonio Solis. It was not clear if any of the performers were with Vega when she was stopped.

Representatives for Chayanne and Marc Anthony did not reply to requests for comment.

Chayanne is one of the most popular performers in the Spanish-speaking world and recently recorded a duet with Tony Bennett.
