Canada’s Eugenie Bouchard advances into main draw of Cincinnati Open

CINCINNATI – Canada’s Eugenie Bouchard moved into the main draw of the Cincinnati Open on Sunday after defeating Viktorija Golubic of Switzerland 6-4, 6-2 in qualifying.

Bouchard, who was ranked second in qualifying, needed one hour 19 minutes to beat her rival.

The 22-year-old from Westmount, Que., broke Golubic twice in the first set while being broken once herself. Bouchard then broke the Swiss native three times in the second to take the match.

Bouchard, ranked 39th in the world, won 74 per cent of points off of first serve.
