Former Blue Bomber David Pitcher gets six years for fraud that cost victims $5M
WINNIPEG – A former professional football player has been sentenced to six years in prison in one of Manitoba’s largest frauds.
David Pitcher pleaded guilty last summer to 17 charges relating to a Ponzi scheme that cost investors more than $5 million.
A Winnipeg court heard that Pitcher took in more than $12 million from multiple investors between 2005 and 2012.
Some of the money was used to pay back other investors and some was used for Pitcher’s personal expenses.
He told investors the money was going to his non-profit charitable organization.
Pitcher was a slotback for the CFL Winnipeg Blue Bombers and the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the 1990s.
