Police: California man with infant in car leads officers on chase; baby was not injured

LONG BEACH, Calif. – Authorities say a man led police in Southern California on a chase while a baby was in his car.

Long Beach Police Department officers were called early Saturday regarding a domestic dispute involving the suspect, a woman and a 5-month-old infant. When officers arrived at the scene, the man and the baby were gone.

Police spokeswoman Nancy Pratt says the suspect soon returned to the scene and led officers on a chase.

The man came to a stop in San Pedro, about 5 miles away. Investigators believe he exchanged gunfire with officers before surrendering. He was taken into custody without injury and the infant was found in the vehicle.

One officer sustained non-life threatening injuries in the incident. The child was not injured.
