Man given terrorism charges upon transfer from Netherlands

PARIS – The Paris prosecutor’s office says that a Frenchman arrested in the Netherlands in March has been transferred to France, given preliminary terrorism charges for an alleged attack plot and placed in custody.

Prosecutors said Friday that Anis Bahri was transferred a day earlier and charged with taking part in a “criminal terrorist association,” violating a firearm law and with making, possessing and transporting incendiary and explosive products.

French investigators suspect Bahri of being an accomplice of Reda Kriket, a Frenchman arrested a few days before him in the Paris region while, according to the French government, he was in an “advanced stage” of a plot to attack a target in France, “with surely the Euro soccer tournament in sight”.

Bahri is suspected to have travelled to Syria in 2014-2015.
