LONDON – Designer John Galliano, who left fashion in disgrace in 2011 after making anti-Semitic comments in a Paris bar, has returned with a debut show for fashion house Maison Martin Margiela.
Galliano, who took the creative helm for the Paris label last autumn, showed a small couture collection to a carefully selected audience of about 100 in London on Monday. The highly anticipated show marked a comeback from the flamboyant designer, once one of fashion’s brightest stars, who all but disappeared from the industry after he was caught on video slurring “I love Hitler” in 2011.
He was dismissed from Christian Dior and left his namesake label, and was convicted by a French court on complaints of anti-Semitic behaviour.
