STUDENT WALKOUT: Kamloops shows staggered support

'IT'S LIKE DEALING WITH DIVORCED PARENTS:' STUDENT

KAMLOOPS – A few dozen students in Kamloops took to the street Wednesday in a province-wide student walkout.

The protest took place the only day of the week when all B.C. teachers would be at work and off rotating picket lines. The walkout, launched through Facebook wasn't embraced equally by every middle or high school in the city.

A handful of Sahali secondary students sat out front of the school with hand made picket signs. At Valleyview secondary, several students were seen leaving the school shortly before 10 a.m., but not protesting. Roughly two dozen NorKam secondary students took up picket signs along Tranquille Road to get plenty of support from nearby drivers. Students there appeared to know the issues. 

"Students are sick of being caught in-between," said NorKam Grade 11 student Talia David. "It's like dealing with divorced parents."

South Kamloops secondary and Westsyde secondary students appear to have ignored the call. 

"No student walkout at Westsyde," teacher Jeremy Reid tweeted. "Instead, learning taking place."
