Record breaking Christmas at Big White

KELOWNA – It was a very busy Christmas at B.C.'s second largest ski resort.

The hill broke all-time records for ski and snowboard equipment rentals, water use, day parking and overnight guest bookings in the two days following Christmas, according to a media release from Big White Ski Resort.

Equipment rentals topped out at 1,774 units and the resort used over 505,000 US gallons of water. Day parking reached a record high of 2,118 spots and 96.2 per cent of accommodations were booked over the same two days.

Big White President Peter Plimmer says it has been the type of Christmas every resort owner hopes for.

“Our business is 100% reliant on Mother Nature supplying the snow and she did so just in time to celebrate our best Christmas ever. Every business on the mountain and all our suppliers throughout the Okanagan Valley will benefit from the volume of skiers and snowboarders we are hosting every day.”

Over the last seven days, 61 cm of new snow fell forming an alpine base of 176 cm.
