Andersen expected to be ready for start of Leafs season; sidelined 3-4 weeks
New Maple Leafs goaltender Frederik Andersen will not play for Team Europe at the World Cup of Hockey.
The Leafs said Monday that Andersen will be sidelined for the next 3-4 weeks because of an upper body injury.
Andersen, who was acquired in a trade from Anaheim this past summer, is expected to be ready for the start of the NHL regular season.
“This gives him extra rest to get ready for the Leafs,” Toronto’s head coach Mike Babcock said Monday afternoon from Team Canada’s training camp. “It’s unfortunate he didn’t get to represent his team and build confidence in this tournament, but it’s also a good situation for us that we can work with everyday and he’ll be very fit and he’ll be ready to go when we’re ready to go.”
Babcock said Andersen would be ready for the start of the Leafs training camp.
The 26-year-old was injured on Friday in an pre-Olympic qualifier for Denmark when he collided with a teammate.
