NATO force in Afghanistan: 1 service member, 1 civilian dead in apparent insider attack

KABUL – The international military coalition in Afghanistan says one of its service members and an international civilian contractor have been killed in an apparent insider attack by Afghan forces.

The alliance says the attack happened Saturday in eastern Afghanistan.

The coalition says Afghan army soldiers were also killed or wounded but does not provide details.

An Afghan military spokesman declined to comment.

The NATO forces statement did not provide further details nor the nationalities of the dead.

The international alliance typically waits for national authorities to announce their own dead.
