Small fire sparks in Kamloops park

KAMLOOPS – Kamloops firefighters were called to an unattended campfire from a homeless camp this evening.

Fire crews are currently working to put out the grass fire that ignited near Kenna Cartwright Park today Sept. 24, according to Platoon Capt. Will Harlock.

A witness says smoke could be seen coming from the park above The Home Depot in Sahali. 

"Basically it's just an unattended campfire, like from a homeless camp. Crews (are) on scene right now, it's just very small and they're putting it out," Harlock says.

Harlock says several people called in about the fire saying they saw smoke but no flames. 

"They pretty much have it out right now," he says.
