USGS reports deep 7.1 Earthquake in Colombia

BOGOTA – An earthquake has struck southwestern Colombia centred deep underground with a magnitude the U.S. Geological Survey’s preliminary estimate puts at 7.1.

There are no immediate reports of damage or injuries in the region from the Sunday temblor.

The USGS says the quake struck at 11:31 a.m. local time 30 miles (48 kilometres) from the regional capital of Popayan. It says it was centred at a depth of 94 miles (150 kilometres).
