Semi fire backed up traffic on Trans-Canada near Revelstoke
REVELSTOKE – A semi-tractor trailer unit on fire on the Trans-Canada Highway, approximately 10 kilometres west of Revelstoke, was quickly doused by some timely rainfall yesterday.
The cause of the fire has yet to be determined, but the driver did say after applying the brakes, he observed fire coming from the rear passenger tires.
"The load consisted of mechanical parts on wooden pallets," Cpl. Thomas Blakney said, in a press release. "The timely rainfall helped extinguish the fire."
The highway was closed for approximately 30 minutes yesterday, Sept. 24, and re-opened with alternating traffic. As of this morning, the highway is opened in both directions.
