Ring in the New Year with a splash at Vernon’s Polar Bear Swim

VERNON – It’s a freezing, and at the same time heartwarming, event.

This year’s Polar Bear Swim Jan. 1 at Kal Beach is again raising funds for the Zimbabwe Project, which supports communities through gardening, sewing, carpentry, livestock and other projects.

You can ring in the new year by plunging into Kalamalka Lake and getting friends and family to sponsor you to do it. The Zimbabwe Project, a Vernon-based charity, is entirely volunteer driven and 100 per cent of proceeds from the swim go to the initiatives.

You can register for the event online.

Participants are asked to arrive for registration at 11:30 a.m. and the swim itself takes place at 1 p.m. The event will also include a BBQ.

Swimmers are encouraged to dress up and participate in a costume contest. There will also be a prize for the person with the most sponsors.
