Kamloops weather moving back to fall-like conditions after cold, wet weekend

KAMLOOPS – Improving weather conditions are in the forecast for Kamloops this week following a cold, wet weekend which saw significant snow accumulations on southern Interior ski hills and mountain passes.

Varying amounts of snow fell on local mountain passes, with the Pennask Summit receiving 14 centimetres while seven cm fell on the Coquihalla Summit. A low passing over the region on Wednesday may result in another two or three cm of snow on local mountain passes this week.

Environment Canada meteorologist Matt MacDonald says temperatures in Kamloops are expected to rebound, but not before patchy frost overnight tonight, Sept. 30, with the temperatures expected to reach 0 C under a clear sky.

"It might be time for gardeners to harvest their crops," MacDonald advises.

The forecast calls for a mainly sunny day today in Kamloops with a high of 15 C.  The snow level is expected to dip to 1,100 metres with winds becoming west at 20 km/h this afternoon. Tonight could see patchy frost with a low of 0 C.

Expect a mix of sun and cloud in the morning tomorrow and a daytime high of 16 C. Tomorrow night should see cloudy periods and a low of 3 C.

On Wednesday the clouds roll in again with a high of 12 C followed by a 30 per cent chance of showers overnight with a low of 6 C.

The cloudy conditions continue on Thursday with a high of 15 C and an overnight low of 6 C.

You can expect a mix of sun and cloud on Friday with a high of 16 C and a low of 7 C.

Normal temperatures at this time of year in Kamloops are highs of 18 C and lows of 5 C.
