Alcohol and speed factors in vehicle crash that sends two to hospital

PENTICTON – A man with an outstanding warrant is in Osoyoos police custody facing further charges after a motor vehicle collision which left two people with injuries.

Osoyoos RCMP responded to a serious single vehicle rollover on Highway 3 near MacGuire Road on Sept. 27 around 7:54 a.m.

Police spokesperson Sgt. Jason Bayda said in a press release issue this afternoon, Sept. 30, an older model Chevy Nova was seen driving erratically in the westbound lane of Highway 3, swerving and passing other motorists.

The vehicle failed to negotiate a sharp curve and went off the road into a ditch where it rolled several times.

Members of the Anarchist Mountain Fire Department had to extricate a female passenger who was critically injured in the incident.

A male passenger was also taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver fled the scene on foot and was apprehended by police around three hours later after emerging from thick brush.

The driver sustained minor injuries and was arrested for failing to remain at the scene of an accident. The 32-year-old man was also found to be facing an outstanding warrant out of Penticton and was held in custody for a court appearance later that day.

Investigation into the collision continues. Alcohol and speed are both being considered factors in the incident.
