False alarm at Kelowna airport

KELOWNA – It didn’t turn out to be anything dangerous like a bomb, but the security officials at the Kelowna International Airport weren’t taking any chances.

At 11:42 a.m. Thursday, a suspicious item was found in a piece of checked luggage going through the screening system.

The RCMP were called.

Part of the airport terminal building was evacuated for about 40 minutes while the police investigated.

They opened up the bag, checked inside and declared the item not to be dangerous.

No one is saying what the item was and what security thought it was.

No passengers were impacted by the false alarm and no commercial flights were delayed.
