Canada names host-team roster to defend World Sledge Hockey Challenge
CALGARY – Veteran forwards Brad Bowden, Marc Dorion and Greg Westlake headline the Canadian team named Friday for the World Sledge Hockey Challenge.
Canada will defend its title in Leduc, Alta., from Feb. 1-7.
Bowden of Orton, Ont., Westlake of Oakville and Dorion from Bourget, Que., won Paralympic gold in 2006 and bronze in 2014. They were among the 17 players named to Canada’s roster.
Forwards Bryan Sholomicki of Winnipeg and Chris Cederstrand of Okotoks, Alta., along with defenceman Kevin Sorley of Petersburg, Ont., will make their debuts with Canada’s sledge hockey team in Leduc.
The team was chosen by coach Ken Babey and his assistants following a training camp held in Calgary earlier this month.
Canada defeated the U.S. 3-1 in the final of the 2013 World Sledge Hockey Challenge in Toronto.
Canada will also be the defending champion at the world sledge hockey championship that will be held April 24 to May 2 in Buffalo, N.Y.
