
New York Yankees clinch AL East title for 13th division crown in 17 years
NEW YORK, N.Y. – The New York Yankees have clinched the AL East title on the final night of the regular season thanks to Baltimore’s loss at Tampa Bay.
New York went into Wednesday needing a win over Boston or an Orioles loss to wrap up its 13th division crown in 17 years. The Yankees were leading the Red Sox 12-2 in the seventh inning when the final score of Baltimore’s 4-1 loss to the Rays was shown on the Yankee Stadium scoreboard.
New York players and coaches noticed in the dugout and applauded, patting each other on the back and handing out high-fives.
