
Cote scores OT winner as the Royals comeback to defeat the Tigers 4-3
VICTORIA – Trevor Cote’s overtime winner capped off a come-from-behind victory as the Victoria Royals edged the visiting Medicine Hat Tigers 4-3 on Wednesday in Western Hockey League action.
Austin Carroll, Brandon Magee and Alex Gogolev also scored for the Royals (4-1-0), who were trailing 3-0 midway through the second period.
Trevor Cox scored two goals and Hunter Shinkaruk added one for the Tigers (3-1-1).
Patrik Polivka stopped 14 shots for the win as Marek Langhamer made 26 saves in a losing effort.
Both clubs went 1-for-4 on the power play.
Cox opened the scoring for the Tigers just over a minute into the game with a quick wrist shot off the rush.
With Victoria shorthanded, Cox scored his second goal of the game on a broken play from the slot.
WHL player of the week Shinkaruk then made it 3-0 midway through the second period when he carried the puck around the Royals defense and snapped a low shot past Polivka.
Crooks finally put Victoria on the board at 15:37.
The Royals moved within one goal when a hard point shot by defenseman Tyler Stahl was deflected in by Magee on the power play.
After some sustained pressure, Gogolev grabbed a loose puck beside the net and scored to tie the game with just over a minute left in the third.
Cote scored the winner in overtime when he made a quick move at the hash marks and snapped a low shot behind Langhamer.
